Hi, I am Dr Banerjee. I have taught music since 1992 — in Delhi, Bombay, Madras, Calcutta and Zurich, and currently from Jalandhar — and I still teach every class myself.
One-to-one and small groups in singing, harmonium, guitar, piano and keyboard, Indian classical music, flute and bansuri, and ukulele. Outside India? I teach online as well. And yes, the demo class is free: online it is a 15–30 minute session, and at the studio it is the one visit you make before we begin.

About me
I have been teaching
since 1992.
I began teaching in 1992, while I was still a student myself, and I have not stopped since. Life took me to the University of Oxford for a doctorate in World Music, and into studios and film projects in India, the US, Korea and Japan: 1,500+ of those, and every one of them somebody else's record or film. The 61 releases on the streaming platforms are a different thing altogether. Those are mine, my own music under my own name, and they sit beside the projects rather than inside them. But the hour I love most is still the one I spend with students at my place in Urban Estate, working out together why a phrase is not landing.
So this is not an academy with batches and a front desk. It is me, my instruments and you. I write your practice notes after every class, and I have never believed music should feel like homework. My own line, and I mean it: life is a bed of roses. If your lessons feel that way too, the odd thorn now and then but mostly a pleasure, then we are doing this right.

Two traditions
My doctorate is in World Music, so I teach Indian classical and Western music side by side. You never have to pick a side, and you never have to leave one at the door.

Atinder Kaur came to me as a beginner. This is the two of us singing and playing together in the studio: no backing track, no second take, nobody else in the room. When a student and I can finish a song like this, I know the teaching has landed.

I teach at my studio in Urban Estate II, Near Taj Food (Dulhan Palace), Jalandhar. One-to-one and group lessons run there, and I teach live online worldwide through Zoom, Google Meet or WhatsApp Video.
02How much are music classes in Jalandhar?
Physical one-to-one classes are ₹2,500 per 8 classes, twice a week — singing is ₹3,500 per 8 classes. Group classes in Jalandhar are ₹1,000 per month, on Mon & Thu from 10:00 am or Wed & Sat from 6:30 pm.
03What do online music classes cost?
In India, online one-to-one classes are ₹3,500 per 8 classes, twice a week, and online group classes are ₹2,000 per month, on Tue & Fri from 9:00 pm. Worldwide, including NRIs, the rate is £55 per 8 classes.
04Is there a free demo class?
Yes. Online, your demo class is the 15–30-minute intro session: we talk, I hear you play or sing, and we agree days, timings, syllabus and progression. At the studio, your demo class is the one visit you make before classes begin: come in, see the room and hear how a lesson runs. The demo costs you nothing; regular classes are charged as per the fee table.
05What can I learn at Dr Banerjee Music?
You can learn singing, harmonium, guitar, piano and keyboard, ukulele, and flute or bansuri from me, plus Indian classical and Hindustani music. I teach one-to-one or in groups, and I take beginners, children from age seven, adults and working musicians.
06How long is each music lesson?
A standard one-to-one lesson runs for 45 to 60 minutes. The 8-class plans are held twice a week, while monthly group plans follow a fixed weekly timetable, so progress stays steady and practice is easy to plan.
07Can beginners, children and adults join?
Yes. I welcome complete beginners, children from age seven, adults and experienced musicians. I write each learner a programme suited to their level and goals, and I send practice notes after every session.
08Who teaches the classes?
I do, every one of them. I am Dr Banerjee, and I have taught since 1992, with a doctorate in World Music from the University of Oxford. The 1,500+ national and international projects behind me were other people's films and records; the 61 releases on the streaming platforms are my own music. I have also written ten Kindle titles.
