After years of working with music — as a composer, music educator and creative professional — I wanted to explore a different form of storytelling. That journey became The Rose of Silver Leaves, my debut novel on Kindle and Kindle Unlimited. It is a 211-page mythic fantasy about forbidden love, prophecy and destiny, written for readers who enjoy lyrical fantasy with the atmosphere of an old legend.

What is The Rose of Silver Leaves about?
The story takes place in Aetherion, where the immortal and mortal realms are divided by ancient laws. The division is not only geographical; it is moral and personal. To cross it is to risk exile — not merely from a place, but from belonging itself.
Lóriliel of the Silver Leaves is an elven maiden who breaks the oldest law of her people when she falls in love with Sir Alaric of Thorne, a mortal knight. Their love is quiet at first, then absolute — and therefore forbidden. What begins as a private choice carries a wider resonance, because Aetherion remembers. Prophecies made at the beginning of the world have been waiting.
Their daughter, Aelwyn, is born between two worlds. As she grows, both realms begin to understand that her existence may be linked to an ancient darkness beneath the Ashen Mountains. War gathers at the margins, exile reshapes families, and choices made in love are tested by time and duty. At the centre is a single question:
Can love outlast death when time itself becomes the enemy?

Why does this fantasy feel musical?
Music has shaped how I think about structure, emotion and time. When I began this novel, I brought the same attention to rhythm and recurring theme.
A composition may return to a melody in a different key, transformed by what has happened in between. A novel can do the same through images and choices that recur. In The Rose of Silver Leaves, the rose, the silver leaves, the tension between mortality and immortality, and the hush of prophecy return across the book. They appear, recede and return changed, as the characters are changed.
That is why early readers describe the book as lyrical fantasy. It is lyrical not for ornament, but because the emotion requires it. Some scenes are paced like movements — quiet at first, gradually deepening, then arriving at a more powerful close. Years of teaching music and studying how people learn taught me where to place a pause, where to withhold, and where to let a scene breathe.

What did writing this novel teach me, and what comes next?
I am known chiefly for music — composition, production and education — and for the books and study guides that grew from teaching. Those projects taught me patience, structure and attention to emotional detail.
Writing this novel let me explore those concerns through prose. Music, research, teaching and fiction are distinct forms, but for me they study the same thing: how imagination and memory shape human experience across time.
